Woods Volunteer Spotlight

Eric Ramsay

Eric Ramsay began volunteering at Woods this past October in Maplewood, one of the all-male units on campus. He started out as a buddy to one of the residents and has become a friend to all. According to Carrie Watts, a Maplewood Program Specialist, he “has been an amazing volunteer, companion and friend to all of the guys.” She continues, “He is consistent with presence in the unit to the point that it has become second nature to see Eric each Thursday.” He is patient and kind and makes a genuine effort to get to know each resident on an individual basis. All of the Maplewood staff are truly grateful for Eric’s generosity with his time and look forward to his continued presence at Woods.

Eric shares -

"I have really enjoyed my volunteering experience at Woods Services. I come once a week and hang out with some of the residents in Maplewood. Each week I usually spend time with a new person. I have lots of fun participating in their different activities.  Sometimes we play pool; other times checkers or card games, depending on what the resident likes to do. They often surprise me with how competitive they can be. I always leave with a smile on my face and look forward to going the next week. When I first started, part of my motivation was to gain service hours for school. Now, I have come to really enjoy it and the service hours are not all that important.”

Thank you, Eric for your commitment!

If you, or someone you know, is interested in becoming a Woods’ volunteer, please email Victoria Brossy, Coordinator of Volunteers, at volunteers@woods.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
