Langhorne Terrace Ministries
Woods’ Volunteer Program would like to feature the youth group of Langhorne Terrace Ministries as the volunteers of the month for January 2010. The youth group, also known as Breakaway, consists of over twenty students in junior and senior high school. This group meets at the church every Sunday night (across from the Rte. 213 entrance to Woods) to hang out and talk about current issues and faith. The real-life application for their December topic involved them coming to Woods to give back and spend time living out what they were learning.
This group spent three Sunday nights in Forrest Hall during the month of December 2009. The youth piled out of vans each Sunday bringing coloring books, crayons, balls and music equipment. For an hour and a half, the group hung out and got to know the residents. It was clear from the very beginning that this was a group of compassionate individuals. Everyone jumped right in that first night, willing to step out of their comfort zones and volunteer their time.
Bobby, the youth leader, expresses, “I never thought I could have so much fun singing ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ song. I left Forrest Hall each Sunday night with a smile on my face”.
Stephen, a Breakaway member who helped out with the music, shares, “I really enjoyed the opportunity I got to volunteer in Forrest Hall. I was able to use my musical abilities that I received from God and pass that on to the clients. I loved interacting with the clients.”
Another youth shares, “Hi, my name is Tyler. Before the first visit I was a little nervous about what to expect, but after we arrived I was having a lot of fun participating in activities with the people there, and it looked like they were having fun too. I felt really good and after I left I couldn't wait to go back again.”
Thank you to the youth group of Langhorne Terrace Ministries! We at Woods really appreciate you giving of your time and talents. We hope to continue this partnership in the future.
If you, or someone you know, is interested in becoming a Woods’ volunteer, please email Victoria Brossy, Coordinator of Volunteers, at volunteers@woods.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
