Woods Volunteer Spotlight

Kait Vanderlaan, Anais Hussian and Megan Fisher

Although these three girls are busy with high school and extracurricular activities, that doesn't stop them from helping out in the community.  Kait volunteered with our retired residents and also participated in Woods' Volunteer Variety Show in September, but she wanted to do more.  She, along with her friends, got the idea to do what they loved while volunteering.  They wanted to start dance classes for some of the younger residents of Woods Services.

Kait, Anais and Megan come to Woods' campus once a week to teach a combination of basic hip-hop, jazz and modern dance moves to our residents.  The Woods' residents that come to the classes follow along, but also make up some of their own moves, which the girls incorporate into the dance that they are teaching.  Kait, Anais and Megan have a wonderful time, and the residents look forward to coming every week to show off the moves that they have been practicing.

All three girls attend dance classes at Workshops in Dance in Yardley.  Kait has been dancing for eight years and she loves music.  She is in her senior year at Pennsbury High School, while Megan and Anais are in their junior year.  Anais has been dancing for 10 years and is the captain of two different Relay for Life teams.  Megan has been dancing for six years and likes to read and study French.

Woods Services' Volunteer Program provides groups and individuals with meaningful volunteer experiences from which our clients benefit greatly.  There are many opportunities available for both one-time and on-going commitments.  For more information, please email Casey George at volunteers@woods.org.
