Woods Volunteer Spotlight

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints- Morrisville Ward

The LDS church ward of Morrisville is always looking for new ways for members to volunteer in the community.  Located just up the road in Morrisville, Woods Services seemed like the perfect place for them to visit.  In December, they gathered members in vans and went from building to building singing Christmas carols to Woods' residents.  They assembled in the buildings and performed to enchanted residents.  Spreading holiday joy to Woods' campus was a hit for both residents and staff members, and is still talked about five months later.

Since the carolers were so well received, church members wanted to come back to spend more quality time with residents.  The focus of this church is not only on service, but on family, as well.  When they were presented with the opportunity to bring their families to volunteer at Woods Services, the Morrisville Ward jumped at the chance.  "It is often hard to find volunteer opportunities which we can bring our children to without them getting bored.  This seems like it has been the perfect project for everyone", says church member and volunteer Anne Taber.  Residents of Maplewood and volunteers brought in the spring on a rainy Saturday by painting clay pots and planting marigolds seeds in them.  They also enjoyed playing games and doing puzzles together.

Woods Services' Volunteer Program provides groups and individuals with meaningful volunteer experiences from which our clients benefit greatly.  There are many opportunities available for both one-time and on-going commitments.  For more information, please email Casey George at volunteers@woods.org.
