About Us

Lorraine

Lorraine Lorraine, a 13-year old from Alabama, has been at Woods for seven years. She is diagnosed with moderate mental retardation and has a history of seizure disorders.

Lorraine’s teacher and program specialist . . .

“Helping Lorraine improve her daily living skills has been a primary goal since she arrived and she has made tremendous progress. She gained confidence as she improved those skills and, as a result, became more social with others. She now enjoys taking someone by the hand and “introducing” him or her to another person in the room.

Lorraine is making significant progress in her academic goals as well. Several times a week she works one-on-one with a volunteer who helps in our classroom and they have developed a special friendship. With his help, Lorraine has improved in completing two-step tasks.”

Lorraine’s parents . . .

“We are so thankful for Woods Services and the wonderful staff who care for and teach our daughter. When Lorraine came to Woods she was not very verbal and had not yet learned basic life skills. Now she is much happier. She is able to focus on completing tasks and is making tremendous progress on her goals.

Lorraine’s day program is a perfect fit for her needs. During evenings and weekends she keeps busy with activities or recreational trips. And all of the staff are incredibly nurturing, attentive and knowledgeable of her needs.

Sending Lorraine to Woods was a difficult choice for us, but one we will never regret. The organization continues to offer our daughter excellent educational and recreational opportunities. It also gives her the sense of stability she needs to call Woods home.”
