About Us

Peder

Peder Peder is a 19-year old from Seattle, Washington with Prader-Willi Syndrome, a genetic disorder that is extremely difficult to manage. Because it is associated with a voracious appetite, the massive weight gain can be life threatening if not dealt with on a daily basis. Peder came to Woods Services in 2000 because his parents were unable to find a program in their home state that provides services to people with Prader-Willi Syndrome.

Peder’s parents...

“It’s hard to express how much Woods Services has helped to enrich the life of our son Peder, as well as our whole family. Living in the Pacific Northwest, we are blessed with some of the finest medical facilities anywhere in the world. However, our school system and government support agencies have no experience in providing for an individual with this syndrome.

Before he came to Woods, Peder’s behavior was on a downhill spiral. Between severe tantrums and a desire to run away in search of food, we lived in constant fear for his well-being. Our search for an environment where he could grow and thrive as a person was a long, hard journey. But the struggle was worth every moment when we look at the wonderful success that Peder has had since entering Woods’ program. He has made steady progress in school and has a house full of friends - both peers and staff. While he used to have three to four temper tantrums per day, Peder can now be calm and quiet for months at a time.

Woods is truly a blessing from God and we are so thankful for all the love and care that the staff provide for him. It’s really hard not to have Peder living with us, but as happy as he is today and the many strides he has made, we could not ask for more.”
