Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDDs), are a group of developmental disabilities that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges. These disorders range from relatively mild impairments to significant disabilities that impair an individual’s ability to learn, communicate, interact and participate in society. A subset of PDDs is Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). PDDs and the related ASDs are considered “spectrum” disorders because because there are differences in age of onset of symptoms, their level of severity, and their exact nature.
