Volunteer Activities

We believe in providing you with a meaningful opportunity from which our clients will greatly benefit. Both one-time and year-long commitments are available for individuals and groups. If you do not see a program that matches your available time or interests,we would be happy to talk with you to determine if we can create a project that meets your needs.

Pre-established Volunteer Programs

Individuals help by being a "Buddy" to a resident. A volunteer regularly visits with the client in the resident hall - spending time together talking, playing games, and hanging out.
Volunteers can participate in activities, games and crafts with clients in the Afternoon/Evening Activity Program.

Groups and individuals provide assistance with special events throughout the year. Some of the events include -
- Visitors' Day - volunteers are paired with clients to help them navigate through the activities of the day. Others will help to staff game and craft tables, participate in the Kick-Off Walk, or assist with the day's food preparation or facilities set-up.
- Harvest Balls and Proms - while Woods' clients enjoy themselves dancing at their special events, volunteers help by taking photos and making and distributing corsages and boutonnieres.
- Northeast Riders Toy Run - volunteers help to direct motorcyclists on the day of the run and coordinate gifts received.
The Secret Santa program attracts close to 200 individuals and groups each year that volunteer to purchase gifts for a Woods client who will remain at Woods during the December holidays.
Clients enjoy interacting with animals so they especially love when the Pet Therapy dogs come to visit. If you and your pet have been certified for pet therapy, we have got an opportunity for you!
Volunteers can help with a variety of clerical tasks throughout the year including administrative projects, mailings, and special assignments. Individuals re-entering the workforce and retirees who want to stay active are encouraged to apply their skills. You will be called each time a special opportunity is available.

Activities Tailored to Your Needs

Do you need to complete community service hours? Perhaps you are a member of a church youth group looking for an activity once a month. Maybe your company would like employees to perform a community service project on a particular day. We can work with you to plan an activity that fits your parameters and meets our goal of enhancing the quality of life for Woods' clients.
