Volunteer Activities
Volunteers are a key part of Woods Services. The purpose of the Volunteer Program is to provide a mutually beneficial experience for our clients and our volunteers. We welcome volunteers for one-time opportunities, as well as regular weekly or monthly commitments. The Volunteer Program is very flexible. We look forward to working with your interests and availability to create your volunteer experience.
Volunteer Programs
- Clerical Tasks - Provide administrative support to Woods' Volunteer and Development Offices by assisting with mailings and projects.
- Buddy Program -
Spend some quality one-on-one time with a Woods resident doing the things that he or she enjoys most; these may include playing games, arts and crafts projects, reading, talking and listening to music.
- Recreation Assistant - Work with Woods' Recreation staff during the afternoon and evening hours assisting with planned activities and trips; these may include games, arts and crafts, or a trip to the mall, movie theatre or another off-campus activity.
- Teacher Assistant - Volunteer alongside Woods' teachers during the school day to assist with day-to-day classroom activities.
- Group Volunteering - Volunteer placements can be tailored to your group's needs and interests. Groups can spend time with Woods' residents playing games, making crafts, or participating in other recreational activities.
- Pet Therapy - Do you have a dog that is pet therapy certified (e.g. a Canine Good Citizen certificate)? Woods' residents enjoy (and also therapeutically benefit from) visits from these furry friends. Vaccination records are also required.
- Special Events - We need people to help with these one-time events:
- Harvest Balls and Proms - Assist in making corsages and boutonnieres or help take photographs of residents during the event.
- Secret Santa - Spread holiday cheer by sponsoring a resident during the month of December. Sponsors will be matched with a resident's wish list.
- Northeast Riders Toy Run - Direct motorcyclists and organize gifts collected (annually in December).
- Visitors' Day - Join themed festivities each year in May by assisting with food preparation, helping to serve food, running game and craft booths, or dressing as a character.
- Variety Show - Entertain Woods' residents by signing up to sing, dance or share your talent at the annual show, held in August.
- View the list of volunteer opportunities with The Campaign for Woods' Second Century.
Additional volunteer placements can be made based upon specific volunteer interests and talents (e.g. leading a baking class, teaching a dance class, etc.).
