How You Can Help

Volunteer Activities

Volunteers are a key part of Woods Services. The purpose of the Volunteer Program is to provide a mutually beneficial experience for our clients and our volunteers. We welcome volunteers for one-time opportunities, as well as regular weekly or monthly commitments. The Volunteer Program is very flexible. We look forward to working with your interests and availability to create your volunteer experience.

Volunteer Programs

  • Buddy Program - A volunteer regularly visits one-on-one with a client, spending time together talking, playing games, and hanging out.

  • Holland Day Program - Are you interested in leading a craft, simple game, sing-a-long, nail-painting party, or another similar activity? The elderly residents at Holland would love to have a visit from you!

  • Afternoon or Evening Recreation Assistant - Volunteers can participate in scheduled activities, games, and crafts with clients alongside Woods' Recreation staff.

  • Trip Volunteer - There are various opportunities for recreation trips each month. You can sign up ahead of time for the trips that interest you!
  • Special Events - We need people to help with these one-time events:

    • Visitors' Day - Volunteers are paired with clients to help them navigate through the activities of the day, while others run game and craft tables, participate in the Kick-Off Walk, or assist with preparations and set-up.

    • Harvest Balls and Proms - Woods' clients enjoy themselves immensely as they dance at these special events. Enhance their experience by helping to make and distribute corsages and boutonnieres, or serving as the official Prom photographer.

    • Variety Show - Volunteers present musical numbers, special tricks, or other fun talents for clients. This annual event is a fun night for all!

    • Secret Santa - Purchase or solicit gifts for a client who will remain at Woods during the December holidays.

    • Northeast Riders Toy Run - Every December, volunteers help to direct motorcyclists on the day of the Run and coordinate gifts received.

  • Pet Therapy - Clients enjoy interacting with the pet therapy dogs. If you and your pet have been certified for pet therapy, then this opportunity is for you!

  • Clerical Tasks - Volunteers are needed for administrative projects, mailings, and special assignments. Individuals re-entering the workforce and retirees who want to stay active are encouraged to apply their skills.
