Langhorne, Pa. –Woods Services, a non-profit organization providing programs and supports for children and adults with special needs, is pleased to announce a grant in the amount of $10,000 from Verizon. The grant will give students with a broad range of learning challenges greater access to Assistive Technology.
Woods’ state-of-the-art Squier Assistive Technology Center serves as a resource, evaluation, and demonstration hub for those who can benefit from specialized equipment and software designed for people with various developmental challenges. Technology including specialized computer software, adaptive equipment, and communication devices can have a significant impact on academic progress for these students. Computer technology is particularly effective in addressing the literacy needs of these children by giving them interactive tools that encourage growth in reading, language and communication skills.
“Verizon’s mission is to help improve the quality of life by empowering individuals, across the lifespan, with innovative tools and resources for lifelong learning skills”, said Daniel J. Reavy, Director of External Affairs, Verizon Pennsylvania. “We are proud to partner with Woods Services and magnify the impact of technology to enrich and strengthen our communities”.
“We are very excited about this partnership with Verizon,” said Dr. Robert Griffith, President and Chief Executive Officer of Woods Services. “This grant will help make it possible to provide technology to Woods’ students that not only will improve their literacy skills, but also increase their access to job opportunities in the future.”
