December 9th, 2008
Langhorne, Pa. –Woods Services, a non-profit organization providing programs and supports for children and adults with special needs, is pleased to announce a grant in the amount of $5,000 from CVS Caremark. The grant will give students with a broad range of learning challenges greater access to Assistive Technology.
Woods’ state-of-the-art Squier Assistive Technology Center serves as a resource, evaluation, and demonstration hub for those who can benefit from specialized equipment and software designed for people with various developmental challenges. Technology including specialized computer software, adaptive equipment, and communication devices can have a significant impact on academic progress for these students. Computer technology is particularly effective in addressing the literacy needs of these children by giving them interactive tools that encourage growth in reading, language and communication skills.
“This grant from CVS Caremark will help make it possible to provide interactive software and other assistive technology tools to our students,” said Dr. Robert Griffith, President and Chief Executive Officer of Woods Services. “Such tools will improve their academic skills and increase their access to job opportunities in the future.”
“CVS Caremark Community Grants are an effective way for us to contribute to the success of communities where we do business,” said Jennifer Veilleux, Director of CVS Caremark Corporation. “We are proud to support the work that Woods Services does for children and adolescents with special needs.”
