Woods Services Receives $5,000 Grant from The W.W. Smith Charitable Trust

June 8th, 2009

Langhorne, Pa. -- Woods Services, a non-profit organization providing a variety of programs for children and adults with special needs, recently received a $5,000 grant from The W.W. Smith Charitable Trust.

The grant will provide clothing for children and seniors with special needs over the next year.  The majority of students’ tuition at Woods is funded by child welfare agencies or school districts, or a combination of both.  The care provided for elderly clients is funded through Mental Retardation departments, Medicaid and a combination of other funding agencies.  The families of some of Woods’ clients lack the financial resources to purchase clothing and other necessities for them.  Grants and individual contributions help pay for such items that contribute to improving quality of life for those in Woods care.

“We are very grateful for the generosity of The W.W. Smith Charitable Trust,” said Dr. Robert G. Griffith, president of Woods Services.  “With their help, Woods will be able to provide new clothing for people who are challenged by developmental disabilities.”

Founded in 1913, Woods Services provides educational, residential, and vocational services to children and adults with developmental, emotional, and brain-injury related disabilities.  Woods is located in Langhorne, Pa. with additional locations throughout Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware Counties, as well as a brain injury program in Langhorne.  For more information about Woods, please contact Cheryl Kauffman at (215) 750-4255 or ckauffman@woods.org or visit the Woods Services Foundation website at www.woods.org.
