Next Steps: Woods, The Campaign and The Economy

As we closed our fiscal year on June 30, we did so with gratitude for another stellar year. The past two fiscal years have ranked as #1 and #2 historically in terms of development at Woods. The Campaign for Woods’ Second Century has been an overwhelming success to date, and we greatly appreciate the support and participation of so many friends – old and new.

Woods brought FY ’08 – ’09 to a close having raised in excess of $9.2 million in support of the campaign and its objectives. This past year was an exciting one at Woods -

On November 6, 2008 we dedicated the new E. Sherman Chase Employee Training Center, the Alexis Lee Davenport Medical Clinic and the Mikey Faulkner Dental Clinic. These facilities allow Woods to provide the best possible care to those we serve.
On December 15, 2008 Woods successfully fulfilled the challenge grant set forth by the Kresge Foundation. This accomplishment resulted in a gift of $415,000 and a heightened level of credibility for our development activities.
With the opening of the new Medical, Dental and Employee Training Center, Woods began construction on Phase II of the capital objective of The Campaign for Woods’ Second Century – renovation of the Pinewood Residence. This project will allow Woods to accommodate twenty four (24) additional clients, expanding its care for children diagnosed with autism.

All of these activities took place in the midst of one of the most difficult economic environments any of us have ever witnessed. With no blueprint as to how to survive and thrive in such an environment, Woods depended upon the leadership of its Board of Trustees and the experience of its management team to chart a course for success. In regard to development we chose to move ahead with cautious resolve. During the height of the crisis we attempted to stay in contact, but chose not to aggressively pursue solicitations. Rather, we conducted intensive planning for the coming phases of the campaign.

As the nation and the world begin to experience glimmers of hope and signs of recovery, Woods stands ready to move forward. In the coming weeks we’ll be sharing additional information regarding our success to date, our plans for the future and our hope that you and people like you will continue to join our cause. For now we wish you the best for a restful summer and an exciting new fiscal year.
