5th Annual Run for Woods Slated for May 4th!

April 3, 2019

A One-Mile Fun Run/Walk, Post-Race BBQ and Celebration Add to the Fun

Woods Services in Langhorne, Pa., invites runners, walkers and rollers of all abilities to participate in the Run for Woods 5K presented by Faulkner-Ciocca Dealerships at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019.  The 3.1-mile flat and fast course starts and finishes on the Woods campus in Langhorne, traveling through the tree-lined streets in the borough’s historic district, which is listed on the National Register.  Cash prizes will be awarded to the race’s top three male and female finishers.  A pre-race continental breakfast and opening ceremony, one-mile Fun Run/Walk, post-race celebration and BBQ lunch courtesy of Carrabba’s Italian Grill and Outback Steakhouse, race medals and t-shirts are all part of the fun.  The event is expected to attract 1,000 participants and raise $200,000 for Woods Services, a nonprofit organization that serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and acquired brain injury.  It will also raise awareness for Woods Service’s continuum of care, which focuses on integrated healthcare, prevention, wellness, education, behavioral health, social services and housing.

“Building on more than 100 years of experience, Woods is making transformational changes and investments to better meet the needs of the 675 individuals we serve,” said Woods President and CEO Tine Hansen-Turton.  “We are grateful to the running community, our Bucks County neighbors and our sponsors for their support of our 5th annual Run for Woods 5K.  Their participation assists us in providing exceptional educational, vocational and recreational opportunities that enrich lives and increase independence,” she said.

Registration is now open at www.runforwoods.org.  Fees for the 5K and one-mile events for adults and children over age 12 is $45 by May 1, $50 on race day, and $25 for kids 12 and under, and includes an official race t-shirt, finisher’s medal, and post-race

celebration/BBQ.  Children six and under can participate for free, but free participation does not include a t-shirt or medal.  Participants, community members and business are also invited to underwrite participation for a Woods resident and his/her support staff member with a donation of $90.

Registration/check-in opens at 7:00 a.m. on race day, with power bars, yogurt, fruit, juice and coffee provided.  Participants should leave time for parking and getting to the start line, planning to be in place by 8:40 a.m. for the opening ceremony.  The 5K starts promptly at 9:00 a.m., and the Fun Run/Walk steps off at 9:10 a.m.  The post-race celebration and BBQ continue until noon.  Cash prizes for top male and female finishers are $125 for first place, $100 for second, and $75 for third.  Age-group finishers will be

announced on stage.  Trophies will be awarded for largest team, top individual fundraiser, and top team fundraiser.
