Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program
Your gift to Woods Services can provide Pennsylvania-based companies with a substantial tax credit through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program. Your support of Woods through EITC will support our Boost Program, an after-school program for the children and youth served by Woods.
The Boost Program enhances learning for 300 K-12 students enrolled in Woods’ licensed private approved special education school. Woods serves children who are challenged by intellectual/developmental disabilities, behavioral issues, physical challenges, autism, and brain injury. Boost uses a club approach, paired with pre-vocational training and a range of career experiences to enhance the education of these students. Examples of the clubs offered include Science, Technology, Travel, and Art, Theater and Music. Each club engages students in activities that build on the curriculum, enhances skills needed to be successful in the classroom, live as independently as possible, and find and retain employment once they graduate.
What is EITC?
The Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) provides companies with a 75% tax credit for donations to a non-profit educational improvement organization. The tax credit increases to 90% if a commitment to making the same donations for two consecutive years is made. A business paying taxes in Pennsylvania can receive up to $750,000 in tax credits annually.
How do businesses participate in EITC?
Online applications from businesses new to the program will be accepted each year by July 1. EITC tax credits are offered on a “first come, first serve” basis. Check requirements and deadlines at Educational Improvement Tax Credit.
What happens after I submit my application?
The Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) will send an approval letter to companies that have been awarded credits. The timing of these letters varies year to year, but they generally arrive between October and December.
If you receive an approval letter from DCED, your company has 60 days to send a contribution to Woods. We, in turn, will promptly issue a gift acknowledgement letter to your business, as the gift receipt must be submitted to DCED within 90 days of the original approval letter. Once DCED has received a copy of Woods’ acknowledgement letter, your business will receive the tax credits described in your approval letter.
